Currently, there are no existing recycling programs for paper towels due to hygiene concerns and the properties of the paper. This project shows that waste paper towels can be easily digested into glucose, the substrate for production of ethanol by fermentation, and thus be beneficial to both the environment and our need for renewable energy.
