Global warming refers to the rapid climate change occurring in the last century. It is the result of humans releasing CO2, chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), and other harmful gases into the atmosphere. This started in Europe in the 1700s during the Industrial Revolution when people started to burn fossil fuels such as coal and natural gas for heat, energy and electricity. This is bad for the environment because greenhouse gases such as CO2 trap heat in our atmosphere and stops it from leaving earth and causes the Earth to warm up because the radiation from the sun cannot escape Earth's atmosphere.
