Problem & Purpose

Scientists predict that the Earth will warm up by 1.4 - 5.8C by the year 2100.   This may not seem like a lot to us or even affect us because we won’t be around then but it will effect the future generations and the world in an extreme approach.  It will cause many changes including the repeatedly mentioned melting of the polar ice caps.  Global warming will also trigger more violent storms and hurricanes. If global warming is left ignored and we keep using our current sources of energy and continue to burn fossil fuels we will be increasing the affect of global warming.

This project suggests the use of an alternative cleaner fuel. It suggests, more-so, the production of a well known fuel – hydrogen. Bio-hydrogen production although early in research has been seen as a feasible method to eventually produce enough hydrogen for commercial demands. The advantage of producing biological hydrogen versus other non-biological methods is that biological hydrogen production is environmentally friendly whereas other methods often pollute trying to make a clean fuel like hydrogen.
