Conclusion

Everyday we use simple machines, when you walk in the park, use an elevator and ride in a car. So we thought to incorporate as many simple machines as possible. To solve this problem we came up with compound machines that use allot of simple machines. The first thing that popped into our head is carnival rides, they use a system of levers, wheels and axles and pulleys to move you in every direction possible. The easiest and most basic one to make is the Ferris Wheel. A Ferris wheel is a giant wheel with cars\seats fitted on an axle that spins. As it spins the seats sway giving a relaxing ride. In our VSF project we were not allowed to use motors so we had to find another power source to move the Ferris wheel. We decided to attach a teeter totter to the ferris wheel to power it. So far we had a lever and over 10 wheels and axles. We attached a gear and a clip so the gear only turns clock wise. We added two fixed pulleys and an elastic band to attach the gear's axle to the ferris wheel's axle. Then we put 2 springs under each side of the teeter totter to make it move faster. Now we incorporated all the simple machines necessary. That is the Gear powered ferris wheel!
