Purpose

Extraction Procedure

  • Test ethyl acetate and ethanol as solvents to extract jatropha oil and compare results to hexane-extracted jatropha oil to find if either is a suitable alternative to the hexane most commonly used in jatropha oil solvent extraction experiments and tests

Optical Density (OD) Procedure

  • Use Spectrophotometric measurements to assess purity of oil extracted using different solvents, to compare ethyl acetate and ethanol with hexane-extracted jatropha oil
