Introduction

The basis of this project was to use statistical analysis to create a successful
 playoff hockey pool.

Now, where do most statistics come from? The answer is
simple - data. The data used in this project

was gathered from NHL statistics (1) (2) (3) and it was applied statistically using graphs and

numbers. The project has 3 parts, each part having 1 set of statistical data that it is based upon. Each

of the part's statistics build up on each other until the final deciphering of the picks for the hockey

pool. From these parts a statistical model was made to find out who to pick for a hockey pool. The

graphs in the project were plotted through a computer program called MATLAB (Matrix

Laboratories) (4).
