I repeated the experiment with different amounts of liquid e.g.50 ml, 100 ml, and 150 ml and measured the capillary rise (Experiment-2). I found out that the capillary rise does not change whatever the amount of liquid in the glass. Later, I measured the capillary rise of paint (3 mm) and Aveeno body wash liquid (4 mm). The capillary rise of corn syrup was the most and balsamic vinegar was the least, (out of the liquids that I tested). This is because the surface tension and the adhesive forces are different for different liquids. The higher the adhesion and lower the surface tension, higher the rise will be. Corn syrup had the greatest adhesion with the straw and the lowest surface tension. |
