Variables

The two variables that were changing in this experiment were the temperature of the water and the fabric the glass jar was wrapped with. The other variables that I considered while doing the experiment was the size of the container, the amount of water, the size of the fabric pieces, and the placement of the jar in the fridge. Of these I feel that I could’ve better and more accurately measured and covered the jar with the fabrics.

Procedure

  • Cut all the fabrics into 22x11cm rectangles.
  • Heat 100ml of water in the   saucepan and pour it into the jar.
  • Check the temperature of the water with the thermometer and wait until it drops to 42.9°C.
  • Cover the jar with one of the fabrics and hold it in place with a rubber band.
  • Put it into the fridge and record the temperature every 10 minutes for half an hour. (All temperatures are rounded to the nearest tenth.)
  • Repeat steps 2-5 with each of the fabrics.
