1937 Black-footed ferrets are extirpated in the grasslands in Canada
1967 Black-footed ferrets are endangered in United States
1985 Captive breeding program starts in Wyoming
1987

All black-footed ferrets are taken from the wild and put in places
where people take care of them and breed them

1988

Black-footed Ferret Recovery Plan begins in the United States to breed ferrets and release them back into the wild

2007 Over 600 black-footed ferrets live in the wild in the United States
2009 Up to 50 black-footed ferrets will be released into Saskatchewan's Grasslands National Park in the fall.
