MOVEMENT

The black-footed ferret has a slender but strong body.  This lets it fit into burrows to find its prey.  Above ground, the ferret’s feet help it to jump or slowly gallop.  Ferrets can travel between 8 and 11 kilometres per hour.  Scientists have found that a ferret can travel 10 kilometres in one night and search up to 100 prairie dog burrows.  Male ferrets cover more distance than females.  During the winter months, the ferret does not travel as much as during the summer.
