ENDANGERED

There are no more black footed ferrets left in the wild in Saskatchewan.  It has been extirpated.  That means black footed ferrets used to live in Saskatchewan, but they don’t any more. In the fall of 2009, some ferrets may be released into the wild in Saskatchewan. There are still black footed ferrets living in the wild in the United States.  The black-footed ferret is endangered for many reasons.  First, it has lost its habitat to people building homes and farms.  Second, people have shot the black-footed ferret.  Third, farmers and ranchers poisoned the prairie dogs because they made big holes.  Then the black- footed ferret starved because it had no prey to eat.  Fourth, ranch dogs also killed the black-footed ferrets.  Finally, they are also killed by diseases like canine distemper.
