Photosynthesis is a scientific and natural process that all types of plants participate in. It consists of organisms that contain chlorophyll, taking in water, light and carbon dioxide. These plants convert these substances together to make a sugar – glucose - to use as their energy source. The by product is oxygen. There is a simple chemical equation that explains the process. That equation is,

6 CO2 + 12 H2O + light à C6H12O6
+ 6 O2 + 6 H2O
Carbon dioxide + water + light energy à
Glucose + oxygen + water
