This project focuses on a clean, renewable energy source, Bio-gas. The production of biogas simply involves everyday waste such as garbage you would find in the kitchen and almost anything you can compost. Biogas is basically methane, a flammable gas which can be substituted for fossil fuels. Although methane is nearly the same as natural gas the method in which it is obtained is what makes the difference. When burned, methane only releases one molecule of CO2, (carbon dioxide) and two molecules of H2O (water). This project shows how you can produce the methane by providing an example of a biogas generator. It shows why it is a good source of energy for the future. It also explains what type of conditions the bacteria require for the production of bio-gas. How much methane can be produced is also described using the small scale version and when made commercial how much the production can be. Once the bacterium uses up the organic matter in the bio-digester the leftover waste cannot be used again and new material and water can be added to start the process again but the waste still contains plant matter and can be used as rich black soil or fertilizer to help grow more plants. |

Source for Idea: This idea came to me when I was concidering the looming energy crisis and the larger amount of garabge in the world. I did some research and thought we could hit two birds with one stone, in other words, solve the energy problem by using organic waste.
