Meeting the "One-Tonne Challenge"

"In December 2002, the Government of Canada ratified the Kyoto Protocol- an international agreement that helps reduce the greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to climate change. (The Kyoto Protocol was named because the meeting took place in Kyoto, Japan.) The federal government is now issuing a One-Tonne Challenge to all Canadians, urging them to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by one-tonne (20% of the five tonnes which each Canadian produces in an average year). When you participate in 20/20, you will help Canada meet the Kyoto target.
