The Research of Diabetes

The earliest known record of diabetes mentioned on 3rd Dynasty Egyptian papyrus was by physician Hesy-Ra, who mentions polyuria (frequent urination) as a symptom. In 1552 B.C.E, an ancient Egyptian doctor named Hesy-Ra examined a patient who had to go to the bathroom often. He did not know what was wrong with the patient, but thought that if he gave him a special diet it might help. He gave him a special diet of fruits, grains, and honey. This diet helped a lot, but did not cure the patient completely. He still had to go to the bathroom a lot. Hesy-Ra is the first doctor to scout out diabetes in a patient, but did not know of any cures. He worked hard at finding one, but all through his life never succeeded. Hesy-Ra might not have found a cure for diabetes, but in the time there was no cure, he saved many by changing their diets. This diet change was essential because the amount of sugar in it is minimal, so it was easier for the week pancreas to break everything down.
