| Ethanol Fuel
In place of gasoline, ethanol can be used as an alternate fuel source. Anhydrous ethanol, (ethanol with 1% water) can be added into gasoline in varying quantities to minimize used of petroleum fuels. It also aids int the reduction of air pollution.
In Brazil, some specific vehicles are make to operate on hydrated ethanol. it is used as an oxygenate additive for standard gasoline. At a 10% mixture, ethanol decreases engine knock, becaus it increases the octane rating. 10% ethanol gasoline is used in some cities where levels of emissions have become dangerous, especially during winter.
Through fermentation or by hydration of ethylene, it can be mass- produced. It can also be by starch or sugar in energy crops grown for its chemical energy content. There's controversy surrounding whether this fuel is sustainable enough to have much advantage over fossil fuels. Its availability is dependant upon the amount of land area, soil, water, and sunlight.
