A Look at Global Warming
Greenhouse Effect
Greenhouse gases are a form of heating that lowers the atmosphere and surface of planet. It involves sunlight, gases and, particles in the atmosphere. The amount of greenhouse gases has increased since the 1800’s (Global Warming, 2001). The reason greenhouse gasses are called greenhouse gasses is because the atmosphere is like the roof and walls of a greenhouse, trapping heat from the sun (Global Warming, 2001).
The burning of fossil fuels (coal, oil, and natural gas) can create these toxic gases. Most of this burning happens in buildings, automobiles, electric power plants, and factories (Global Warming, 2001). The emissions of greenhouses gases have increased since the mid-1970. When the emissions changed the temperature of the earth, ice caps melted which have killed animals that depend on these ice caps for hunting and habituating reasons. Without greenhouse gases, the Earth would be cooler by 30 degrees Celsius (Global Warming, 2001).
