Method

Effectiveness of Ice Melting

· Mix 20 grams of Sifto Salt and 10 grams of Stone Mason, Alaskan Ice Melter and Big Everest Pellets into four containers filled with 300ml of tap water
· Drop four similar ice cubes into the solution
· Observe the time it takes to completely dissolve each ice cube

Impact on Cars

· take 12 empty containers
· measure 10 grams of Sifto Salt and 5 grams of Stone Mason, Alaskan Ice Melter and Big Everest Pellets
· fill the containers with 150ml water
· mix the salts into the water
· shake until the salt has dissolved into the solution
· take the rubber washers, painted and unpainted steel strips and put one in each container
· observe what happens to the pieces of steel over the next six weeks

Impact on Environment

· Germinate 20 McKenzie Golden Wax Bush bean seeds
· Plant germinated been seeds in potting soil
· Grow bean seeds to about 3 inch seedlings
· Transplant seedlings to five terracotta pots
· Fill five 500ml water bottles with tap water
· Mix 10 grams of Sifto Salt and 5 grams of Stone Mason , Alaskan Ice Melter and Big Everest Pellets into the water bottles
· Water the five bean plants with the salt solutions
· Observe the growth of the bean plants over the next four weeks
