Can any female actually measure-up to the “Barbie” image? We predicted that no female will be able to have the same measurements in proportion to a Barbie doll measurements.  Our results showed that our hypothesis was correct. Not one female even came close to having the same proportions.

One area that we would change would be which measurements to use.  We would add the following:  the width of the back, the measurement below the chest and the thighs.

The Barbie used in this experiment was a teenage version so the measurements should have reflected those of the teenage girls used as volunteers.  We wonder if the results would have been any closer if we had used a more mature Barbie.

Based on these results, females should realize that trying to compare their bodies to the perfect images that the media uses can only lead to frustration as it is virtually impossible to “measure up”.  Hopefully females can be satisfied with their own body image.
