Dams can be used where ever there is a source of water. A dam is a barrier across flowing water that blocks the water’s natural flow or slows down the water, this creates a reservoir. Dams are very efficient and they create no green house gases. When a dam creates too much energy the dam releases water in high pressure surges. After the water passes through the dam and creates energy, which travels through power lines as electricity. Then it is sold to areas on the grid. If you do have a dam in your area it is very effective, but like all ways of creating energy it has it’s defaults. Our group thinks that dams are an effective way to produce energy, but at the same time we feel that they damage the environment.

Recommendations
Our group decided that even though dams are great for the environment we would not recommend that Cayley should get one because if we were to install a dam we would need to make our own water source. Also dams are very expensive costing (30-50 million dollars to build a life size dam!) Installing a dam in Cayley could be a down fall because it would flood the farm land and there is a lot of agricultural land in Cayley and around its area. Cayley is a very small hamlet and we believe that it would make more sense to build a dam in or outside a large city so everyone would get the full effects. from the dam. |
