Observations

(1)      The data show that the great majority of calls follow the instruction-readback-confirmation procedure perfectly. This is good news for airline passengers! About 90% of calls were correct.

(2)      Of the calls that didn’t follow the procedure perfectly, the majority are “say again”. This is also good news because it ensures that the pilots understand the instructions.

(3)      Only 2% of the readbacks were incorrect.

(4)      Only 1 % of the calls were missed.

(5)      The percentage of correct calls didn’t vary by much for the different types of flight. The highest percentage correct were by Canadian airlines (92%) and the lowest was the U.S. airlines (86%). This is a difference of only 6%.

(6)      The percentage of missed calls, incorrect calls, and “say agains” also didn’t vary by much because all of these numbers were low.
