How to produce
NaHCO3 in manufacturing?
NaHCO3 or baking soda can be
produced:
1/ The reaction of crystalline ammonium hydrogen
carbonate with the brine to precipitate crystals of the title compound:
NH4HCO3 + NaCl → NaHCO3
+ NH4Cl
2/ One may also
produce it by the reaction of carbon dioxide and ammonia with the brine to
precipitate crystals of sodium bicarbonate, as in the Solvay method, the method
of soda ash production:
NH3 +
CO2 + H2O + NaCl → NaHCO3 + NH4Cl
3/ An important
process is washing of the raw sodium bicarbonate several times by a dilute
aqueous soda (Na2CO3) solution, to remove other salts (NH4Cl).
During the washing (in a flow of CO2), the two following reactions
occur which prevent contamination and loss of the crystals:
Na2CO3
+ 2NH4Cl → (NH4)2CO3 + 2NaCl
CO2 + H2O + Na2CO3 → 2NaHCO3
B.
How to produce KHCO3?
As this project
mentioned before, KHCO3 exists as one of components of coal ash.
Coal ash is what is left over after coal is burned in power plants to generate
electricity. According to American Coal Ash Association (ACAA), coal is expected
to be a major source of energy far into the next century, thus the amount of ash
will be increase per annum. ( In 2003, over 121 million tons of ash were
generated.) With the development of technology nowadays, the separation of KHCO3
from ash is definitely inconsiderable.

C. Further research:
This experiment have just tested the fire
retardant characteristic of chemical paint in wood, hopefully in future we will
not only evaluate on variety of materials including sheetrock, lath and plaster,
concrete, sheet metal, tin, foam, foam composite panels as well as advanced
materials such as fiberglass and carbon fiber but we are also continuously
researching, inventing a completely stronger fire resistant paint which can
withstand extremely high temperature in a long duration. As a result, this
chemical paint will have a high level of fire protection to many industries such
as construction, insulation and transportation (land, air, sea).
