Summary : In our experiment, we are going to test which length of plank will launch a softball the farthest. We will test this by building catapult to do the tests. We went on the internet and got a picture that helped us build it. First we built a base and put up some supports. Then we put some ready rod though it and hooked the launch arm to it. Then we made three holes; one was sixty two inches from the bottom of the arm; the second was fifty eight inches; third was fifty four inches from the bottom. After that that we got an eighty pound weight and hooked it to the top end. Then we had to make a trigger to launch it so we put a board straight up from the back brace and drilled a hole through it. Then we could pull the launch arm down and put a bolt in and the arm would stay. Then we had to make a pocket. We tried using a tarp and cutting out a square, but it didn’t work. Then we went on the internet and it said to cut a diamond shape out of old blue jeans so we tried it and it didn’t work. We tried a lot of different ways but none of them worked so we just used a coffee can, which worked well. Then we got our results.

Software Tool Used : Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Internet, Microsoft FrontPage.

Hardware Tools : camera and video camera

Idea Source: I was watching the discovery channel and I saw it and thought that it would be neat to do it for science fair. So we went on the internet and looked it up and and found a picture that had all of the lengths and dimensions of it. We wanted to make it bigger so we times all the dimensions by four

Special Skills : We have experience in building  thing.

Awards: At the Avonlea Science Fair we got first place. When we went to the Southeast Regional science Science Fair we won the most original project.
