THE PLANES : Hypothesis

Welcome to the planes page.  Here I will have details on the four planes I made and my hypothesis at the bottom :

For future reference, I have numbered the planes from left to right, top to bottom (1, 2, etc.).  Now I will state their special qualities :

               Plane 1.  Has a wingspan of 30.5cm, wing-width of 3.3cm.  Has a tail-span of 10cm, tail-width of 4.2cm.  Has a stabilizer of 4.1cm tall.  Length from back of tail to end : 2.8cm.  Length from front of tail to back of wing : 10.5cm.  Length from front of wing to front tip : 8.1cm.

               Plane 2.  Has a wingspan of 30.5cm, wing-width of 3.9cm.  Has a tail-span of 10cm, tail-width of 4.2cm.  Length from back of tail to end : 3.9cm.  Length from front of tail to back of wing : 9.1cm.  Length from front of wing to front tip : 8.9cm.

               Plane 3.  Has a wingspan of 30.5cm, wing-width of 3.9cm.  Has a tail-span of 10cm, tail-width of 4.2cm.  Length from back of tail to end : 1.3cm.  Length from front of tail to back of wing : 18cm.  Length from front of wing to front tip : 2.6cm.

               Plane 4.  Has a wingspan of 30.5cm, wing-width of 10.9cm.  Has a tail-span of 10cm, tail-width of 4.2cm.  Length from back of tail to end : 1.3cm.  Length from front of tail to back of wing : 9.1cm.  Length from front of wing to front tip : 3.6cm.

All the planes were made out of kabob skewers and normal construction paper.

Hypothesis

Now that we have I have all my details, I will state my hypothesis and why.

Firstly, I think that Plane 2. will fly the worst because it doesn't have enough support at the back.  Thus, when it takes off, I think it will go up, then plummet down.

Secondly, I think that Plane 1. will fly the best because it uses all the same qualities as planes today except it's made out of paper and skewers.

Lastly, I think that the the other two would fly about the same.  Because Plane 4. would fly OK but not enough support at the back.  Plane 3. would have good support and all, but it lacks a stabilizer so it could turn left or right sharply.
