Diamonds in Saskatchewan

Many diamond researchers and diamond research facilities believe that there might be more Kimberlite in Saskatchewan than in the entire world, including Africa.

One company that is busy mining diamonds here in our province is Shore Gold.  The total amount of diamonds Shore Gold has produced as of February the 2, 2005 is 29,577 diamonds!

Different jobs in the diamond field include geologists, miners, and researchers, not to mention the gemologists and goldsmiths as well as jewelers. You get diamonds by taking Kimberlite samples and putting them in heated oven (these get very hot some we saw at the Saskatchewan Research Council went to 950 degrees C).

Afterward they take the melted Kimberlite and put it in a bucket, after that they strain it and the rocks and diamonds are left.  Then they put it in hydraulic acid, and then they put the stones in a strainer.  After that they look to see if in fact they are real diamonds.

The people of Canada started to look for diamonds in Saskatchewan in the middle of the 1940's. If all goes as planned companies like Shore Gold will ensure that Canadian diamonds, especially ones from Saskatchewan will remain priceless on the world diamond market.
