Objective
To investigate the electrochemistry of Sodium Polystyrene Sulfonate in order to determine whether it is suitable replacement to regular solvent used in rechargeable battery esp. Li-ions battery.
Hypothesis
- Sodium Polystyrene Sulfonate is a strong polyelectrolyte therefore it is able to conduct electricity but to what extent?
- Being a polyelectrolyte it contains electrolyte groups which enable it to conduct electricity but the size of Sodium ions (which is very large compare to Li ions) will give way to high resistance. To what extent does this affect the electro conductivity of the polymer?
- The nernst equation gives the relation between the concentration of the ions present in the electrolyte and the cell potential. The increase in molarity of the Sodium Polystyrene sulfonate will increase the cell potential.
