Method
Solution of Sodium Polystyrene Sulfonate and Li-Cl salts are made by heating deionized water to 650C and mixing it with Sodium Polystyrene sulfonate and Li-Cl salts. The solution is then cooled down using tap water and let to stand till it turns into gel. The solutions contained different number of moles of Sodium Polystyrene Sulfonate but same number of moles of Li-Cl. The first gel contains 4 g of Sodium Polystyrene Sulfonate while the second one contain 5 g of Sodium Polystyrene Sulfonate. Nevertheless, they contained the same amount of Li-Cl as 1 g.
After the gel of both solutions is obtained, we construct chemical cells using aluminum electrode as the anode and carbon electrode as the cathode and perform a reverse polarization method to create the battery effect. A voltage of 3 Volt is used to charge the chemical cells for 30 minutes. The cell is let to stand for 10-20 minutes to let it underwent electrolytsis and then using voltmeter voltage generated by the cell is measured.
