Structure of a catalase

The catalase molecule is composed of four polypeptide chains, with each chain composing of more than 500 amino acids. There are four identical subunits, each with its own active site. At the center of a disk-shaped heme group is the iron ion. Catalases are usually stable enzymes as they have to fight against reactive molecules. The heme group is responsible for catalase’s enzymatic activity.
