CONCLUSION
Although the basic concepts behind Gamma Knife Surgery were developed 50 years ago, recent advances in MRI and CT technology, as well as faster computers have greatly improved the surgical procedure.
Researchers are looking ahead to use Gamma Knife Surgery to treat other problems that stem from isolated abnormalities in the brain such as chronic pain syndromes, epileptic seizures, and possibly even some forms of mental illness. Hopefully, with more information about what parts of the brain are involved in different conditions and roles, the uses of Gamma Knife Surgery will expand in the future.
