Grade Category: 7-9

Team Size: 2

Subject Area: Engineering

Project Type: Experimental

Language: English

Summary: In this experiment we are going to try to see what level of slope can produce the most amount of electricity in a mini hydroelectric plant. When the water flows down the penstock it spins a propeller (Turbine) which will then spin an electric motor (Generator). The generator will be hooked up to an ohms-meter where we will be able to measure the amount of electricity produced.

Software Tools: Microsoft FrontPage and Windows Movie Maker

Hardware Tools: Video camera and digital camera

Idea: We got this idea from looking at websites on the internet and other information we got from a trip to Hoover Dam in the United States a couple years ago.

Special Skills: Welder and mechanic

Awards Won: Gold medal in the Engineering category at the SouthEast Regoinal Science Fair in Fillmore Saskatchewan
