Summary:
In
this project, I tested the effects of salt on canola and its transgenic lines. I
proved my hypothesis that with more salt, the seed germination and plant growth
would become inhibited and the transgenic lines would do better under salt
stress conditions, implying the usefulness of biotechnology in
fighting salt stress.

of Idea:
I
have always been interested in plants and the interaction of plants with their
environment, so I decided to test how one of the environment factor,
salt, effects canola, which is important to Canada. I also decided to use
transgenic lines (GMOs) because biotechnology is a new thing and I wanted
to see if it helps in salt tolerance.
Awards:
This
project won at the Saskatoon Regional Science Fair for the best Junior Life
Sciences Award, Agriculture in the Classroom Prize and a travel award to
Vancouver to attend the Canadian-Wide Science Fair in May. Stay tuned for the
results at CWSF.
