Summary:

I started  to work on this project with lots of questions on my mind. The questions I asked to myself were; what exactly synchrotron light is, how is it different from lights from other  sources, how and when synchrotron light was invented and who invented it, how is it produced and used in science and why it is important to us.  At the end of my project, I have come up with a lots of interesting answers to the questions I had asked to myself. Here, on this website, I have described  a brief history of synchrotron light, how a synchrotron works, what is synchrotron light and what makes it unique from other lights, and  the diverse uses  of synchrotron light in various disciplines of science including environment, micromachining, medicine, agriculture, manufacturing, and so on.

Source of project:

I became aware of synchrotrons last year when there was lots of publicity about our Canadian Light Source right here in Saskatoon. I happened to watch the Grand opening of Canadian Light Source (CLS) on television last year (October 24, 2004), then I became really interested because I did not know what a synchrotron was yet. When I went to the Sci-fi workshops later in the year, we got to go on a tour of the CLS facility which was really interesting. We also got to read some information. That was when I thought I would do this year's science fair project on the synchrotron because I wanted to know more about it.
