Project
Summary:
The purpose of this study was to determine
whether our neighborhood park, Nose Hill, was a feasible area in which
to install wind turbines on. This was an important project because the
world is quickly running out energy resources and every year, there
are more greenhouse gasses emissions released into the atmosphere. As
a citizen, it is my responsibility to find solutions to help our
environment. Thus, by doing this project, I hope to create awareness
and to encourage the implementation of more wind energy systems.
In conclusion to the project, We recommend that the large and
downwind turbines should be used on Nose Hill. By using large
turbines, there will be fewer turbines needed to produce more
electricity. Also, downwind turbines are more suitable in an area like
Calgary because it the wind direction changes frequently.
The upper plateau of Nose Hill is a flat region that can have
approximately 31 wind turbines. It will be enough to power
approximately 1096 homes or a community.
