How to eliminate or reduce the problem of detergents. Countries like Switzerland, Norway, Venezuela and 12 states in the USA have gone a step ahead by completing banning the use of phosphates in detergents. Canada however has brought down phosphate levels by 22% to 5% in 1987. Even though this is good, Canada hasn’t gone far enough. We need to ban phosphates completely.
Another thing we could do to reduce the problem is to make sure to treat water before it goes in to oceans. Did you know that Victoria dumps their sewage directly in the ocean without treating it? B.C. Ferries also does the same thing.
The hotel industry promotes people to reuse
their towels. Cruise ships tell people not to flush as often otherwise the waste
goes directly in to the ocean. We can do the same thing at home by making sure
the dishwasher is full; do full loads of laundry and reusing towels. All the
small parts we contribute add up to saving our environment.
Homemade cleaners which are safe both for you and environment are called
“Green” cleaners.
