Effects on Humans
Different amounts of radiation have different effects on
humans. Radiation that comes from the environment is not noticeably dangerous.
Instruments that produce small amounts of radiation, like micro waves and
televisions, do not give off harmful amounts of radiation. However, if one is
exposed to small amounts of radiation over a long period of time there is a
potential risk because it increases the chance of cancer. Radiation is
carcinogenic; it can provoke or lead to cancer. High amounts of radiation will
produce an even larger chance of cancer, and will induce genetic damage to one’s
body. Unlike small dosages of radiation, if one is exposed to a high dosage,
immediate symptoms may occur, such as nausea, reddening of the skin, and with
very high dosages, death.
