Glossary

Asexual Reproduction
The method of reproduction where only one parent is needed. The offspring is the exact duplicate of the parent.

Clone
An organism possessing the same exact traits and nuclear DNA as another.

Chromosome
Long coiled chains of genes.

Differentiation
The process where a cell undergoes to become specialized in performing a specific role.

DNA
The genetic material carried in a cell.

Eugenics
Improving the human race through selective breeding.

Genes
Strings of chemicals that play a part in creating the proteins in your body.

Gene Splicing
Cutting a specific gene of interest from one organism and transferring it into another organism. The second organism will now possess the traits that the gene is responsible for.

Genetic Egineering
The means of altering the genes of an organism through human intervention.

Hybrid
Not of pure breeding.

Mitosis
The process of cell division. 2 identical cells are produced from one parent cell.

Sexual Reproduction
The method of reproduction where two parents are needed. The child gets a mixture of genetic information from both parents.

Stem Cells
The most basic form of cells. All other cells start out like this and eventually undergo differentiation.
