INTRODUCTION

“A virus is a piece of bad news wrapped up in protein”, Sir Peter Medawar (1983). Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), Hepatitis C virus (HCV), influenza viruses, herpes virus, Ebola virus, West Nile virus, SARS-associated coronavirus, Avian influenza virus – the list of dangerous viruses keeps growing each year posing major challenges to human health.

For centuries we have struggled and fought with viruses. Thanks to new technology and health advances, we’ve been able to identify, treat, prevent, and sometimes even eradicate them. However, there are still many terrible viruses where a cure is not availiable. According to World Health Organization (WHO), less than one third of all deaths worldwide each year are due to dangerous viruses.

Without question, viruses and viral immunity is one of the most important health issues of this century.

This project is created to focus on what a virus is, how it invades the human body, and how we can fight back.
