The Effects of Mytomycin-C on Stem Cells

Welcome to The Effects of Mitomycin-C on Stem Cells! We will be showing you the unique effects that an anti-tumour drug has on stem cells. We worked with two mentors, Dr. Ivar Mendez and Dr. Murray Hong. Working at the brain repair lab in the tupper building of Dalhousie Medical school, we were able to work directy with professionals at the international brain repair center.

The purpose of this experiment was to determine the right dosage of Mitomycin-C that that would stop the proliferation of adult stem cells, without affecting their ability to grow and specialize. If the right dosage of Mitomycin-C was found it could help researchers find a way to transplant neurons into the damaged areas of the brain, without the possibility of the formation of a tumour. Our hypothesis is that a very small dosage of Mitomycin-C will sufficiently stop cell proliferation in adult stem cells.
