GETTING
STARTED
Hypothesis
The plants under sunlight should grow the fastest and
the best. This is because regular
sunlight has all of the colours of the visible spectrum along with other forms
of radiation. Also, companies that
manufacture lights for plant growth are always trying to get it to be as close
to sunlight as possible.
Materials

Plates
"Type 1" been seeds
"Type 2" been seeds
2 lamps
1 incandescent bulb
1 fluorescent bulb
2 cardboard boxes
1 tape measure
Tap water
Method
The seeds of the two types of beans were spread out evenly among the
different plates, and planted in cotton. The
bean plant was used since beans grow faster than most types of plants.
One plate was placed into a cardboard box; an incandescent light bulb was
used to provide lighting for it. Another
plate was placed into the other cardboard box and fluorescent tube was used to
light the plants. The last plant
was placed under direct sunlight. Since
many plants were in each group only the top four plants of each group were
measured. The height of the stems
and the number of leaves of each plant were measured periodically.
The plants were grown using a fairly new technique called
“hydroponics”. The plants were
watered every day at 11:00pm.
