The light waves carry energy. High frequency light has high energy and low frequency light has low energy. In the visible light spectrum, violet color has highest energy and the red color has the least.

When the visible light meets an object, the object has a capacity to absorb, reflect and/or transmit the different colors of the light. The color of the object we see is the color of the light reflected and/or transmitted by the object. Such an object would be called a 'Reflector'.
