A Study on the Effects of Potash Tailings on the Growth of Barley and Flax |

Hypothesis My hypothesis is that the potash tailings will have a undesirable effect on the Barley and Flax plants. I believe that the tailings will affect the germination and growth of the plants. I also think that the Flax plants will be affected more than the Barley, because overall they are more susceptible to things like disease or drought. In trial one, I think that group 3 will not germinate and that group 2 will have very few barley plants and no flax plants. I believe that Group 1 will have almost as many barley plants as the control group, but will have very few flax plants. All groups will have late germination compared to the control group. In trial 2, I think that the light group will have less flax plants than the control and the same amount of barley plants. Also its germination will be delayed a small amount. I believe that the heavy-salt group will germinate later than the control group, as well as heavy-potash group. I think that the salt and potash tailings will have the same effect on the plants because I think that it is the salt in the potash tailings which will hurt the plants.
